Discovering Your God-Given Gifts: A Guide for Women Who Want to Walk in Purpose

ree

You’ve probably heard someone say, “You have gifts from God."

And maybe you’ve nodded politely, unsure what that actually means.

Or maybe deep down you’ve wondered… Do I really? If you’ve ever asked, What are my spiritual gifts?, How do I know what God wants me to do?, or Why don’t I feel like I have a purpose?—this post is for you.

What Are Spiritual Gifts—And What They’re Not

Spiritual gifts are special abilities given by the Holy Spirit to believers for the building up of the Body of Christ (see 1 Corinthians 12, Romans 12, and Ephesians 4).

They’re not the same as natural talents—though sometimes they overlap. They’re not about popularity or performance. And they’re not something you “earn”—they’re given by God, for His glory.

Examples include:

  • Encouragement

  • Teaching

  • Service

  • Giving

  • Leadership

  • Discernment

  • Wisdom

  • Faith

  • Mercy

  • Evangelism

These gifts may look different from person to person, but each one is valuable and intentional.

3 Simple Ways to Begin Discovering Your Gifts

1. Dig into the Word

Start with Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4.Underline anything that stirs your spirit or reminds you of how you love to serve. God’s Word often reveals what He’s already placed inside us.

2. Pay Attention to What Comes Naturally

Ask yourself:

  • What do people come to me for?

  • What fills me up instead of drains me?

  • When do I feel most in sync with God and how I help others?

Sometimes the things we overlook are actually our strongest gifts.

3. Ask Trusted People Around You

Sometimes others see our gifts more clearly than we do .Ask a friend, mentor, or family member:

“Where do you see God using me?”

“When do you see me come alive?”

Write down their responses—then take them to prayer. Sometimes the confirmation we need comes through the people who love us most.

You don’t have to wait until you “have it all together” to start walking in your gifts. You don’t need a title, a platform, or a perfect plan. You just need a willing heart and a desire to serve the Lord with what He’s already placed inside of you.

He made you with purpose—on purpose.

And as you begin to lean in, listen, and explore what He’s gifted you with, don’t forget this:

You are already equipped.

You are already chosen.

You are already enough.

Your gifts were never meant to stay hidden. So go ahead, sis—unwrap them. And use them to bring light, hope, and love to the world.
